Metals under the periodic table are divided into three parts. Alkali metals, Alkali earth metals and transition metals.
Metals are electropositive and as we go down the periodic table atomic radius, reactivity, boiling point, melting point, and density increases.
Transition metals form coloured compounds and have variable valencies. For example copper is a reddish orangish metal and with sulphate forms a blue colour aqueous salt. Copper also has two valencies copperI and copperII (cuperous and cupric). Hope this helped!
